What is Trichomoniasis

The most prevalent treatable STD is trichomoniasis (also known as trich). Trich is an STD that can be treated with antibiotic medication. Most persons with trich don’t exhibit any symptoms, yet it is extremely common.

Each year, millions of people develop trichiasis. The parasite that causes it spreads incredibly quickly during sexual activity. Semen, pre-cum, and vaginal secretions are some examples of sexual fluids that contain the parasite.

Symptoms of Trich

Most trichomoniasis sufferers feel completely normal, so many are not even aware that they have the disease. The most typical symptom of Trich is vaginitis. Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vulva or vagina. Additionally, trich might infect your urethra (the tube you pee out of).

How Trich Spreads

Trich frequently spreads during vaginal intercourse. Infected secretions on your hands can also be shared by vulva-to-vulva contact, exchanging sex devices, and touching your own or your partner’s genitalia. Trich typically doesn’t infect other body areas, but it can easily infect the vulva, vagina, penis, and urethra (like the mouth or anus).

You cannot contract trichomoniasis via sharing food or beverages, kissing, hugging, holding hands, coughing, sneezing, or sitting on toilet seats since it cannot be spread through casual touch.

Getting Tested For Trich

Before getting tested for trichomoniasis, It’s usually a good idea to refrain from having sex. This is true anytime you have signs of an STD or suspect you may have one.

You should also avoid using deodorant powders, sprays, or washes to your genitalia. They can hide indicators that let the doctor determine whether you have an infection. They could also aggravate irritability.

At least 24 hours prior to your appointment, refrain from douching. Douching removes any vaginal fluids that would help testing. (Douching is rarely recommended, anyway)

Make an effort to schedule your appointment before your period. However, if you experience unusual bleeding, see a doctor right away because it might be a serious infection.
