Although discussing STD testing with your doctor may be awkward, try not to feel ashamed. Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Infections are quite common. Half of all new STDs each year occur among people ages 15-44. Doctors would typically prefer you seek testing because it shows that you are looking after your health.
There is not one single test for all STD’s; each disease or infection has its own test. Testing is easy and usually painless. Some testing procedures include:

- Physical Exam
Being informed that you have an STD can be unpleasant. At first, you can feel angry, ashamed, or upset. Try not to panic, and instead get tested and properly diagnosed.
The best course of action after learning you have an STD is to adhere to your doctor’s treatment recommendations. You’ll also need to inform your sexual partner(s) so that they can go get tested and obtain treatment as needed. Although it’s not the most pleasant conversation, it’s crucial.
